A Closer Look at the Upcoming Jeep EV Lineup
The Jeep brand is over 80 years old and known globally as a premium manufacturer of iconic vehicles. One reason this company continues to succeed is its readiness to embrace the future. Throughout their history, their innovations have set standards within the automotive industry.
Continuing with this tradition of evolution, Jeep is committed to providing more electric and eco-conscious options for its customers. As of right now, Jeep has various hybrid automobiles available for purchase. Let’s take a closer look at these options and the upcoming Jeep EV lineup for 2024 and 2025, which will contain the brand’s first-ever fully-electric cars!
2023 Eco-Conscious Options: the 4xe Configuration
American consumers can expect up to three fully electric Jeep vehicles by at least 2024. Until then, the only eco-conscious options for Jeep enthusiasts remain the brand’s 4xe configuration for the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee.
Basically, this hybrid plug-in technology makes Jeep’s two most popular vehicles significantly more planet-friendly. The 4xe configuration debuted in 2022, when the Wrangler 4xe earned the title of the first electric open-air SUV on the market. The 2023 versions of these hybrid systems offer consumers a unique, eco-conscious driving experience, all while behind the wheel of a familiar-feeling vehicle!
2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe
With a price tag starting at $54,735 MSRP, the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is a reasonably priced hybrid vehicle. With the wait for the new EV Ford Bronco in 2024, this year’s Wrangler 4xe remains the only electric open-top SUV. So if you’re looking for an off-roading 4x4 with hybrid technology, the Wrangler is an excellent option for you!
There are three options for this year’s 4xe: base, Sahara, and Rubicon. Similar to standard Wrangler configurations, the base model offers standard aesthetic and technology features, while the Sahara focuses on luxury and higher-premium interior options. The Rubicon is fully dedicated to off-roading adventures and boasts special all-terrain tires and improved suspension systems. Thanks to the plug-in power reserve, all three configurations get an estimated total driving range of 370 miles per full gas tank! Furthermore, the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe also features full-electric power driving settings for shorter distances.
2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the brand’s most popular vehicle, and for a good reason. This passenger-friendly SUV consistently boasts superior comfort, entertainment, performance, and safety features that make it one of the most dependable automobiles on the market.
At just under $60,000, the 2023 Grand Cherokee 4xe hybrid plug-in is the ideal SUV for large families. The hybrid technology provides an estimated 440 miles of driving range per full gas tank and 25 miles on all-electric settings. This means fewer visits to the gas station and more money for groceries, bills, and other pressing expenses.
Plus, this 2023 model includes three distinct driving modes for improved gas efficiency or performance: hybrid, electric, and eSave (full-gas power). Along with impressive performance and gas-saving technologies, this Grand Cherokee is also exceptionally comfortable. Select models boast head-first and second-row seating with memory foam cushioning and 16-way adjustable capabilities. Additionally, small details such as heated steering wheels, Selec-Terrain traction, and Quadra-Lift suspension contribute to a luxurious driving experience.
Upcoming Fully Electric Options: the Jeep Recon and the Wagoneer S
Luckily, Jeep won’t stop at plug-in hybrid vehicles. The brand promises at least three fully electric automobiles in the upcoming years. Read on to learn more about the two upcoming EVs that we know about: the Jeep Recon and Wagoneer S.
A Brand-New 4x4 Experience: The Jeep Recon
The Jeep Recon, set to debut for American consumers in 2024, is basically the fully electric cousin of the Jeep Wrangler. The Recon is a bona fide 4x4 vehicle with tremendous off-roading capabilities, similar to those of the ever-popular Wrangler. For example, we know this new EV will carry ultra-durable underbody protections and e-locker axle technology. Both features ensure smoother performance over challenging terrain. Additionally, the Recon will have Selec-Terrain traction settings for enhanced off-roading stability, as well as improved comfort on bumpy roads.
Certain models will include tow hooks and brand-signature all-terrain tires, while all versions will have removable doors and a one-touch power top. Lastly, all Recons will boast the newest version of Uconnect and Jeep-exclusive trail navigation software guides.
Outside of these key features, more information pertaining to the Recon like power specifications, driving range, and price, is scarce and unverified. The one certainty remains that, by 2024, Jeep fans will have a fully electric off-roading SUV!
EV Meets Luxury: The Jeep Wagoneer S
If off-roading isn’t your preferred activity, there’s an on-road EV Jeep vehicle for you: the 2023 Wagoneer S. The standard Jeep Wagoneer was once America’s most popular family SUV but ceased production in 1991. For nearly 40 years, consumers enjoyed the amazing interior, powerful driving capabilities, robust storage, and overall comfort of the Wagoneer. Luckily, Jeep brought this vehicle back in 2022 and plans to release an EV version by 2025 at the latest.
Little is known about the Wagoneer S, with most information stemming from auto show concepts and Jeep content. However, we do know this vehicle is strictly battery-electric with a projected range of 400 miles per full charge. Additionally, the brand hopes for a 600-horsepower all-wheel drive powertrain system that goes 0-60 in under 4 seconds.
Unfortunately, these specifications aren’t final, but the company plans to release more information throughout 2024. However, based on the 2022 and 2023 Jeep Wagoneer models, it’s safe to assume that the S EV version will boast similar premium quality relating to comfort and terrain performance.
After taking a closer look at the upcoming Jeep EV lineup, it’s hard not to be excited. These electric automobiles provide consumers with gas-efficient, environmentally friendly, and performance-capable driving experiences that are unmatched by any other automotive brand.
